Hanami Invitation

Join us in celebrating the Centennial of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.  We are the only participant among 50 Cherry Blossom Festival participants who are dedicated to celebrating seniors.  The stage production will be preceded by a VIP reception featuring a performance by Suzuki Violinists from Levine School at the ARC and a host of VIP Guests, including our honored guest - Japan's Ambassador to the U.S., Ichiro Fujisaki.

"Hanami Festival...Through the Eyes of Seniors" celebrates the memories of seniors aged 85 to 105. The seniors tell stories of the early years when the Cherry Blossom trees first arrived in Washington. Through reminiscence theatre, you will experience memorable moments and events with the men and women who lived them.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is the nation's greatest springtime celebration. The 2012 Festival, March 20 – April 27, includes five spectacular weeks of events featuring diverse and creative programming promoting traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty, and community spirit. The 2012 Festival commemorates the 100th anniversary of the gift of the cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan.   (www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org)

The Double Nickels Theatre Company is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2006, by Antoinette Ford, as a way of encouraging seniors to stay actively involved with their communities, young people, and people of differing cultures. We celebrate the legacy of the senior members of our society by highlighting and sharing their lives. We celebrate the contributions of our veteran warriors by capturing and sharing their experiences. We celebrate seniors and veterans through the medium of Reminiscence Theatre, original music and artistic renderings of their time in our history.
